A whole new genre for one of the most valuable properties in gaming, or a basic Command & Conquer-alike with the Halo name slapped on? Our early enthusiasm waned with the closure of Ensemble and a less-than-stellar preview version, and despite trying our best to see the positive side, Halo Wars remains a damned difficult game to warm to. ...

"You are their sword, you are their shield. This is how the world begins..."
Feb 6, 2008
Even if you’re a big Halo fan, the concept of Halo Wars may leave a bad taste in your mouth. Understandable, if you’ve ever played RTS games on a console. Perhaps you found the interface cumbersome, the pace of the combat (and the reactions it asks of you) directly at odds with the flexibility of the controls. Perhaps you’re thinking that things will be no different this time. But having seen gameplay in motion, we reckon ...   » Read Full Halo Wars preview

No Master Chief, but a hell of a lot of war
Aug 21, 2007
Aug 21, 2007 Cannon Fodder on the Genesis started it all, Starcraft on the N64 elevated the conflict and Command & Conquer deployed the first atomic weapons in the ongoing war between real-time strategy games and controllers. Console history is resplendent with examples of RTS atrocities, but Halo Wars is bringing peace with a decent set of buttons to push and a galaxy full of artillery. The demo begins with a Pelican dropship zipping along a valley, flanked by two new Hawk helicopters, ...   » Read Full Halo Wars preview

First impressions and gameplay video
Jul 13, 2007
Halo 3 may finish the fight, but in 2008, Halo Wars will begin it all over again. We just came back from our first look at the real-time strategy game in motion and are happy to report that - despite the difference in genre and developer - this definitely looks like a Halo game. Our impressions and all the newest info is below. Watch the first gameplay footage by scrolling to the bottom of this page. If they want a war, we'll give them... an RTS
Feb 16, 2007
While the boys at Bungie are stealing all the limelight with Halo 3, Ensemble Studios are going about bringing the Halo -verse to 360 in RTS form quietly under the radar. There has been some skepticism about whether RTS can really work on a console but the notoriously protective Bungie has already thrown their full weight behind the project; and if anyones going to be able to pull it off, Ensemble Studios is, being the best in the business and all. The sheer importance of the Halo ...   » Read Full Halo Wars preview

This game is awesome especially using brutes.

First you get a temple and three warehouses then u upgrade them all and get a hall, also start bringing out some brutes in case of an attack. Then once u have about five brutes bought buy some grunts or jackels, which ever you prefer. Then attack and upgrade to a citadel and get another warehouse and a shield generator. After that just start sending more and more troops and if you need to or have the time get out air or ground vehicles and UPGRADE,i cant stress that enough if u don't upgrade they might and send something out to whip your whole army out and come and destroy your base.I hope this helps if not contact me through my gamertag which is asassin 698.Thank you.

http://www.halowarsstrategy.com is looking for the best user submitted strategies. If you think you can beat the following, submit it to the site. Otherwise, try it in your next match!

The best leader for a Marine Rush is Captain Cutter. Check out my Halo Wars strategy.

Captain Cutter Elephant Turtle

To execute this Halo Wars strategy, your starting build order should be Supply Pad, Supply Pad, Reactor, Turret, Supply Pad, and Turret. While you are building the Supply Pads, a good Halo Wars strategy will require you to move your Warthog to collect supplies, where they can add to your much needed supplies to start your Turtle strategy. Once you have produced your second Turret, a good Halo Wars strategy will require you to build an Elephant for its’ defensive capabilities, and then a Field Armory to upgrade the Turrets. A good Halo Wars strategy will take advantage of Turrets and Elephant, their upgrades, and the infantry producing ability of the Elephant. The goal of this Halo Wars strategy is to sustain an early blow from your opponent, and quickly counter-attack while your opponent is vulnerable. Also, don’t forget to use your Disruption Bomb to fend off a Covenant Leader Rush strategy as part of your UNSC Halo Wars strategy. This Halo Wars strategy will fail if you waste too many of your resources expanding to a new base.
